….Defends Tinubu’s reforms, slams Atiku over ‘revolution’ remarks
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned political actors urging former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the 2027 presidential race, warning that such a move could destabilize the country.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday night, Wike described the push as hypocritical, noting that the same political figures who abandoned Jonathan in 2015 were now attempting to lure him back into the fray.
“Anybody saying Jonathan should return because he will only do one term is only looking for crisis. These are the same people who frustrated him in 2015. Jonathan has already made a global name for himself, and they just want to drag him into unnecessary conflict,” Wike said.
He argued that using the “one-term presidency” narrative to push any candidate from the South was insincere and potentially destabilizing.
On the state of the nation, Wike admitted Nigeria was experiencing economic hardship but defended President Bola Tinubu’s policies as necessary steps toward recovery.
“Yes, there is hardship. I agree. But no one can deny that this government is making efforts to improve things. I see the projects in Abuja daily; they are evidence that something is happening,” he said.
Wike also dismissed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent warning of a looming revolution over hunger and poverty, accusing him of lacking credibility.
“Atiku was vice president for eight years. Why didn’t he lay the foundation to prevent hunger then? Now he keeps talking about hunger and revolution. For me, I don’t even bother reading what he says because there is no truth in it,” Wike declared.
The minister urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the Tinubu administration, stressing that opposition leaders should not exploit economic challenges for political advantage.
