Osun: Adeleke’s victory signals possible 2027 upset, says APM

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election as a warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The party said the outcome demonstrated that voters could defeat even the most powerful political structures when they became determined to effect a change.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, the APM said Adeleke’s victory reinforced the political philosophy of its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, that no political establishment was invincible when the people resolved to vote it out.

“The triumph of the people over the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election in President Tinubu’s home State, Osun, not only foretastes the defeat that awaits President Tinubu in 2027 but also firmly established Makinde’s people-driven position that every political establishment seems unbeatable until the people decide otherwise,” Abubakar said.

The party said the response of voters to APC leaders during the election was evidence of growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party, warning that this could pose a serious challenge to the party during the 2027 campaign.

It also alleged that there were signs of internal disaffection within the APC, pointing to an incident in Oyo State where an APC governorship candidate reportedly chanted “APM” during a party gathering.

“Moreover, the open chanting of ‘APM’ by APC candidates and leaders at APC meetings and rallies … should serve as a caution … that many of his party members are not truly with him,” the statement said.

The APM attributed the alleged growing disenchantment to insecurity, economic hardship and what it described as the Federal Government’s “arrogance in failure” and “totalitarian proclivities.”

“Nigerians can no longer continue to stomach the arrogance in failure, totalitarian proclivities, worsening insecurity and economic hardship that the Tinubu administration now represents. They yearn for new realities under an honest, transparent, humane and people-oriented leadership as now embodied in the APM and our Presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde,” the party said.

The party said Makinde’s growing political appeal was linked to his performance as governor of Oyo State, where it claimed he had demonstrated practical leadership and competence.
It cited the state’s economic performance under his administration and noted that a president from another African country had visited Oyo State to learn from its governance model.

The APM, however, accused the APC-led Federal Government of presiding over inflation, unemployment, insecurity, infrastructural decay, economic hardship and declining national prestige.
The party consequently warned the APC against any attempt to manipulate the 2027 presidential election.

“Our party therefore cautions the APC to read the handwriting on the wall and perish any thoughts of rigging the 2027 presidential election as any attempt to subvert the Will of the people will be firmly resisted by Nigerians on the platform of the APM,” Abubakar said.

The party congratulated the people of Osun State, describing the election outcome as a victory for popular will and saying it had strengthened its determination to campaign for the removal of the APC from power in 2027.
