The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its readiness to run an effective and stakeholder-driven campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) said it was putting together a pan-Nigeria campaign structure.
National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, said the party would adopt a strategic approach to its campaign rather than rush into activities immediately after the lifting of the campaign ban.
Speaking on the development, Director said the party was prepared to mount an effective campaign capable of engaging stakeholders across the country.
“The NDC is ready to run an effective and efficient campaign that is stakeholders driven. However, that the ban on campaign activities is lifted does not automatically translate to political parties commencing their campaigns the same day,” he said.
He noted that with about five months to the presidential election, the party needed to carefully plan its activities to ensure maximum impact.
“The presidential election is about five months away. Therefore, we need to be strategic and impactful with our campaign strategies,” Director said.
The NDC also condemned the high charges reportedly imposed by some state governments on political campaign billboards.
“We condemn the unreasonable hike in prices for billboards by some states. It is undemocratic and amounts to constricting the space for free expression,” he said.
Director urged the affected state governments to reverse the charges.
“The state governments involved in such unwholesome and politically abominable practices should reverse themselves immediately. What are they afraid of?” he asked.
Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party said it was preparing a formidable pan-Nigeria campaign structure which would be unveiled soon.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, said the SDP presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, had already been travelling across the country to engage voters.
“The SDP is putting its campaign in a very formidable way to be unveiled soon. As you are aware of, the Presidential candidate of our party, Prince Adewole Adebayo has been going round the country to talk to people and people have so much believed in our party and they are joining from every part of the country,” Aiyenigba said.
He said the proposed campaign structure would bring together prominent Nigerians and other stakeholders with fresh ideas aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
“We are putting up a Pan Nigeria Campaign Structure comprising of eminent Nigerians, patriots that will come to the campaign body with fresh ideas that will make the party to win next year’s election,” he said.
Aiyenigba said the structure would be unveiled shortly, stressing that the party was not under any obligation to commence its campaign on the same day as other parties.
“The structure will be unveiled very shortly and we are not under obligation to start campaign same day with others, we are going to be proactive,” he said.
FAAC: FG, States, LGs Share N3.007trn July Revenue
The Federal Government, states and local government councils have shared N3.007 trillion in revenue for July 2026, following the latest meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
The revenue was shared at the FAAC meeting held on the sidelines of the ongoing National Council on Federation and Economic Development (NACOFED) in Owerri, Imo State.
The latest allocation represents an increase from the N2.551 trillion shared in the preceding month.
According to the FAAC communiqué, the distributable revenue comprised N1.810 trillion in statutory revenue and N740.724 billion from Value Added Tax (VAT).
The committee said the latest figures indicated an improvement in the underlying revenue base, with gross statutory revenue rising to N4.359 trillion.
The figure represents an increase of N658.087 billion, or 17.8 per cent, compared with the N3.700 trillion recorded in the previous month.
FAAC attributed the increase to improved revenue collection from both oil and non-oil statutory sources.
Gross VAT revenue stood at N793.968 billion, representing a marginal decline of N5.778 billion, or 0.7 per cent, from the N799.746 billion recorded in the previous month.
The committee said the figures suggested that consumption-tax receipts remained relatively resilient on a month-on-month basis.
