The Young Progressive Party (YPP) has declared its readiness for the commencement of campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying its manifesto would remain the foundation of its engagement with voters.
The party said it was committed to building an egalitarian society where citizens remained the nation’s greatest resource and leadership was focused on their welfare.
“The YPP has always been prepared for the commencement of campaigns,” the party said, adding that its manifesto remained the blueprint for engaging Nigerians and seeking their support.
The party also condemned the reported N150 million fee imposed on presidential campaign billboards in Cross River State, describing the charge as excessive and capable of undermining a level playing field.
According to the YPP, such charges could create additional barriers for smaller political parties and candidates who lack the financial resources of major parties.
“Democracy should not become a preserve of only the wealthy or the privileged,” the party said.
The party also criticised the use of government regulations and excessive charges to restrict political opponents, warning those in power that political fortunes could change.
“Political power is transient, and those who wield it today must remember that they may be in opposition tomorrow,” it said.
The YPP said Nigeria’s development required visionary, selfless and people-centred leadership rather than leaders driven by personal, political or sectional interests.
“Developing Nigeria is not rocket science,” the party said, stressing the need for leadership that places citizens’ interests and welfare above personal and political considerations.
It maintained that every political party and candidate should have a fair opportunity to present their programmes to the electorate.
“Nigerians, not excessive billboard fees or other artificial barriers, should ultimately decide who deserves their mandate,” the party said.
