The Plateau State Police Command has arrested seven suspects, including a man impersonating a soldier and another found with two locally made firearms, for violating the relaxed 48-hour curfew imposed by the state government in Jos.The Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, warned criminal elements against exploiting the situation to cause unrest, vowing strict enforcement of the curfew and severe sanctions for offenders.In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the arrests followed a disagreement among some youths in the Nassarawa Gwong community of Jos North Local Government Area, which triggered tension in parts of the city.The situation reportedly created panic among traders and students, particularly around the university area, as hoodlums attempted to take advantage of the unrest.However, security operatives, working in collaboration with other agencies, swiftly restored calm.The police, alongside the state government and university authorities, also arranged transportation for students wishing to leave, while deploying security personnel to safeguard those who remained and protect school facilities.Among the suspects arrested are 27-year-old Matthew Musa, who was found in possession of two locally made firearms, and 26-year-old Yakubu Abdullahi, who was dressed in military camouflage and carrying a forged Nigerian Military School identity card.The suspects are currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.CP Ewah called on parents, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to caution their wards and followers to adhere strictly to the curfew, stressing that the command would not tolerate any form of violation. He also urged residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
