The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) an additional 30 days to detain social media influencer and businessman Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, over his alleged connection to a 184.5kg cocaine seizure.
Justice Akintayo Aluko granted the application on August 20, following a request by the anti-narcotics agency for additional time to investigate Kazeem’s alleged involvement in the drug trafficking case.
The NDLEA filed the application a day after the suspect was taken into custody, according to a certified true copy of the enrolled order obtained on Thursday.
The court also granted an interim order preserving funds in Kazeem’s Providus Bank account number 4005905755 and other accounts connected to his Bank Verification Number (BVN).
The funds are to remain preserved pending the conclusion of investigations and/or prosecution.
The case was adjourned until September 17, 2026, for the NDLEA to report on the progress of its investigation.
The court stated: “That this case is adjourned to the 17th day of September, 2026 for report of investigation.”
Kazeem’s arrest followed the seizure of 184.5kg of cocaine by the NDLEA on August 3 at a DHL facility located within the premises of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) in Ikeja, Lagos.
The agency valued the consignment at about N39 billion and described it as its largest cocaine interception through a courier company in Nigeria.
According to the NDLEA, investigators traced the consignment to an international trafficking network allegedly moving cocaine from South America through Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.
The agency identified Kazeem as the alleged Nigerian “arrowhead” of the network and said he was arrested on August 13 at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while preparing to travel to Paris.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig-Gen Mohammed Marwa (retd.), said intelligence indicated that Kazeem was travelling on a business-class ticket.
The agency also alleged that €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash, alongside expensive jewellery, were recovered from him.
A subsequent search of his luxury apartment in Banana Island reportedly led to the recovery of exotic vehicles and other assets.
The NDLEA alleged that Kazeem used his business interests in gold, jewellery and luxury goods to conceal his alleged involvement in the trafficking network.
Marwa said investigations had also uncovered the use of false identities, financial facilitators and contacts in the United Kingdom, while some suspects linked to the network had reportedly been arrested by foreign law enforcement authorities.
The application seeking the detention extension was supported by an affidavit sworn to by NDLEA officer Okonkwo Ebuka Anthony and represented in court by Okon Nora.
