Seven miners have died following the collapse of a mining pit at Kassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred around 7pm on Wednesday while the victims were reportedly carrying out mining activities at the site.
A resident, Albert Danlami, said the pit suddenly collapsed on the miners, trapping them underground.
According to him, residents and fellow miners immediately mobilised to rescue the victims.
Danlami said the incident caused panic in the community as residents rushed to the mining site.
He added that some people were also injured in the collapse.
The Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident.
Tengwong said seven miners lost their lives after the pit collapsed while they were working.
He said rescue efforts were made, but the miners were eventually found dead.
