Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has publicly addressed Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano for the first time since his removal from the throne in 2020.
Ganduje made the acknowledgment on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, held at the Government House in Kano.
In his remarks, the former governor greeted Sanusi and also recognised him in his capacity as Chairman of the Kano State Council of Emirs, signalling a notable shift in tone years after their widely publicised fallout.
Sanusi was dethroned in March 2020 by the Ganduje administration over allegations of insubordination and related issues.
Following his removal, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria was replaced and subsequently relocated from Kano.
The situation, however, changed in 2024 when the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated Sanusi as Emir, restoring him to the traditional stool.
