Troops of Sector 2, Operation ENDURING PEACE Joint Operations Area, have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other items during an operation in Zak village, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was conducted on Saturday, August 29, at about 9:50am and was aimed at disrupting criminal activities and restricting the movement of terrorist elements within the area.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Polycarp Oteh, said the troops intercepted a green Golf vehicle with registration number DKA-808XM during a stop-and-search operation.
He said the troops discovered a concealed compartment specially fabricated inside the vehicle’s dashboard.
“When troops directed the driver to open the compartment, the driver bluntly refused and tactically fled into nearby bush,” Oteh said.
The troops pursued and arrested the driver.
“Upon being apprehended, the driver attempted to disarm one of the soldiers and was swiftly neutralised,” he added.
Items recovered from the vehicle included two AK-47 rifles, magazines, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.
The Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Maxwell Dangana, commended the troops for maintaining what he described as a decisive and aggressive posture.
He urged them to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements within the Joint Operations Area.
Dangana also thanked residents for their cooperation and called for increased collaboration with security agencies through the provision of timely and actionable intelligence.
