Tinubu to Chair AMSG New York Roundtable on Africa’s Critical MineralsPresident Bola Tinubu is expected to chair the third High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa organised by the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) in Manhattan, New York, on September 21, 2026.

The meeting, themed “From Resources to Wealth: Continental Cooperation for Mineral Value Addition,” will focus on strategies for transforming Africa’s mineral resources into greater economic value.

The gathering is expected to bring together African heads of state and government representatives, ministers, investors, development finance institutions, multilateral organisations and executives from mining, technology, processing, logistics and mineral traceability companies.

AMSG said the meeting comes at a time when critical minerals such as lithium, copper, cobalt, graphite, manganese and rare earth elements have become increasingly important to global energy, manufacturing, technology and defence industries.

Despite possessing significant reserves, the group noted that Africa has historically exported much of its mineral resources with limited local processing and value addition.

It said the New York meeting would focus on practical investment opportunities, policy alignment and financing structures capable of turning Africa’s mineral wealth into measurable economic gains.

The organisation said Africa must move from being a passive supplier of raw materials to becoming an active participant in the global critical-minerals economy.

The meeting will also include representatives of multilateral and development finance institutions, including the Africa Finance Corporation, alongside executives from major international companies.

AMSG said the gathering would focus on moving beyond the traditional extract-and-export model by developing integrated mineral value chains and attracting transformative capital.

The group said the meeting would also mark progress in implementing the Mutual Assured Development (MADE) Framework launched at the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit in Abuja.

A major feature will be the unveiling of the Continental Integration and Economic Assurance Declaration (CIEAD), which is expected to provide a framework for cooperation on critical minerals, investment mobilisation, value addition and supply-chain security.

A proposed CIEAD Finance Window is also expected to support innovative financing for mineral processing, infrastructure and technology.
The roundtable will be convened by AMSG leadership with the participation of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairman of the AMSG Ministerial Steering Committee, Dele Alake, and the group’s Secretary-General, Moses Micheal Engadu.

AMSG said Africa’s mineral resources could be used to drive manufacturing, technology transfer, infrastructure development, regional trade and job creation.
