Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have intercepted three disassembled canoes allegedly procured by a notorious terrorist leader, Shehu Bagewaye, to facilitate the movement of his fighters across riverine areas of Zamfara State.
The operation followed intelligence indicating that Bagewaye had arranged for the canoes to be procured from Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State before being transported to Zamfara.
Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the canoes were intended to help the terrorists overcome river obstacles and improve their mobility.
He said troops of Sector 2 conducted a covert operation on August 23, 2026, along identified areas of interest and intercepted the three disassembled canoes.
“The individuals conveying the items abandoned them and fled upon sighting the troops,” Danja said.
He added that the recovered items remained in military custody while efforts were ongoing to track those connected with the attempted movement.
The interception, according to him, highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist logistics.
Danja said the Joint Task Force remained committed to identifying and dismantling terrorist networks, logistics and freedom of movement before they could threaten communities.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support efforts to protect lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
