Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated ₦50 million to the family of the late Lt. Col. O.C. Okolo, who was killed during a Boko Haram attack in Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area of the state on February 16, 2026.
The gesture is part of the governor’s ongoing support for military personnel who have lost their lives in the fight against insurgency. Recently, Zulum also approved ₦150 million for the families of three officers who died in separate attacks across Borno State.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the governor assured that support for fallen heroes and their families would remain a priority. He added that efforts would continue to reach out to families of personnel killed or declared missing in action in ongoing military operations.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Security, retired Brigadier General Abdullahi Sabi Ishaq, Zulum made the donation during the funeral service of the late officer held in Obinofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State on April 10, 2026.
The ₦50 million donation, presented on behalf of the Borno State Government, underscores the administration’s sustained intervention for families of fallen and wounded military personnel involved in counter-insurgency operations.
Zulum extended condolences to the bereaved family, describing the late officer as a courageous and dedicated serviceman whose sacrifices would not be forgotten.
“Lt. Col. O.C. Okolo was a gallant and committed officer who served the nation with distinction. His contributions will remain indelible,” he said, while praying for the repose of his soul and strength for the family to bear the loss.
Responding on behalf of the family, Prof. Stanley Okolo expressed gratitude to the governor for the support and solidarity shown, noting that the donation and presence of the delegation from Maiduguri brought comfort despite the short notice.
He also acknowledged the Chief of Army Staff and the General Officer Commanding, 82 Division, for sending representatives to the funeral.
Dignitaries at the service included Brigadier General G.A. Suru, representing the Chief of Army Staff; Brigadier General I.P. Omoke, representing the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI; members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA); and members of the host community.
