Bandits Kill One, Leave Another Critically Injured in Nasarawa

Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Monday attacked two brothers in Akunza community, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, killing one and leaving the other critically injured.

The victims, identified as Edwin and Cyril, were reportedly supervising construction work on their family property when the assailants struck.

According to a close relative, the brothers had taken some tilers to the site earlier in the day. After the workers left, the gunmen stormed the house, chanting the brothers’ names.

“When they could not force the door open, since it was locked from inside, they went to the window and shot Edwin first before firing at Cyril,” the relative recounted. “Cyril managed to call their mother to inform her of the incident.”

The family dismissed earlier speculations that the victims were attacked on their way from the farm, stressing that the attack occurred within a residential area where there were neighbours and ongoing activities.

In a separate incident, suspected bandits invaded the residence of one Alhaji Sani in Lafia, killing him in the process. Neighbours, who were alerted by gunshots, apprehended one of the suspected attackers and set him ablaze.

Residents of Lafia have since raised concerns over the rising wave of killings in the state capital. “The frequent attacks and killings in Lafia are worrisome,” one resident lamented.
