The Plateau Lawyers Bar Forum has condemned the killing of several residents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the Sunday night attack as “dastardly and heartless.”In a statement issued Wednesday and jointly signed by its Chairman, Ledak Dafer, and Secretary, Niri Darong, the forum expressed deep sorrow over the March 29 incident, which left many dead and others injured.The lawyers said the attack reflects a troubling pattern of violence across several parts of the state, including Wase, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Bassa and now Jos North.They extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.The forum urged the Plateau State Government to ensure that those responsible for the attack, as well as their sponsors, are swiftly identified, arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.It also called for an investigation into the alleged delayed response by nearby police formations during the incident.The lawyers further demanded stricter enforcement of regulations governing the use of commercial motorcycles in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, alongside tougher penalties for offenders.They advocated increased funding, improved equipment and greater personnel deployment for the state’s security outfit, Operation Rainbow, particularly in vulnerable areas.In addition, the forum recommended the installation of solar-powered CCTV cameras in strategic locations across the Jos-Bukuru metropolis to boost surveillance and intelligence gathering.Other measures proposed include the removal of illegal motor parks, stricter enforcement against street trading and better regulation of public spaces.The forum stressed the need for sustained and decisive government action to restore peace and safeguard lives and property across Plateau State.
