The Agbo Major-led faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from the recent opposition parties’ summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, describing reports linking it to the gathering as misleading.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Major stated that the party neither attended the meeting nor authorised any individual to represent it.

“The NNPP categorically distances itself from the recent opposition parties’ summit in Ibadan. No recognised leader attended the gathering,” he said.

He warned against interpreting the presence of expelled members at the event as official participation.
“The presence of notable faces of our expelled members should not be misconstrued to mean membership of our great party in the coalition,” he added.

The party also cautioned coalition organisers against using its name for relevance.

“Coalition leaders must be wary of impostors seeking unmerited relevance using the NNPP platform,” Major said.
Beyond the summit controversy, the NNPP leader called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with a Court of Appeal judgment by uploading the party’s National Working Committee to its official portal.

He warned that continued disobedience could trigger calls for the removal of the INEC chairman.
Major further disclosed that the party’s newly launched electronic membership registration had recorded encouraging nationwide participation, adding that stakeholders were already reviewing the process to enhance transparency and inclusiveness.

“Our goal is to build a credible, technology-driven political institution that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians,” he said.
