Oluremi Tinubu Flags Off Major Support Scheme for Vulnerable Nigerians in Yobe

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has intensified her push for food security and social welfare with the launch of a large-scale food donation programme in Yobe State, targeting vulnerable groups, women farmers, the elderly and persons with special needs.

Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Kashim Shettima, the First Lady unveiled the initiative under the Renewed Hope Food Outreach Scheme, a core pillar of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). She said the scheme was designed not only to cushion hunger among vulnerable households but also to accelerate women’s participation in agriculture through training, start-up kits and access to resources.

“Our goal is to empower women in agriculture, reduce food import dependence, and ensure that no Nigerian is left behind in the fight against hunger,” Mrs. Tinubu said. She added that at least 200 vulnerable persons in each of the 36 states will benefit from food and medical support under the outreach programme.

The wife of Yobe State Governor and state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Hajiya Hafsat Mai Mala Buni, lauded the First Lady’s intervention, stressing that it complements the state’s post-insurgency recovery agenda.

“Your compassion has reached our people at a critical time. Yobe State has continued to rebuild livelihoods, particularly for women and children, through empowerment programmes and household support. The Renewed Hope Initiative further strengthens this,” she noted.

Hafsat Buni highlighted Yobe’s strides in women empowerment and education, including the establishment of eight girls’ secondary schools and international recognition with three Yobe girls winning the TeenEagle 2025 Global Championship in London.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana, pledged the state government’s commitment to align fully with the Renewed Hope Initiative, describing it as “a shared vision for the economic and social upliftment of our people.”

The First Lady’s food outreach in Yobe is part of a broader national rollout aimed at tackling hunger, reducing poverty, and driving inclusive growth in line with federal agricultural and social welfare policies.
