The Plateau State Police Command has imposed a ban on night grazing and mining activities across the state following the killing of three miners by suspected gunmen in Jos South Local Government Area.The attack occurred on Friday at about 9:20 p.m. in Chwel Nyango community, where unidentified assailants ambushed a group of miners returning from a site. Three persons were killed, while one other sustained injuries.Police sources said a distress call prompted the immediate deployment of a patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division, Bukuru, to the scene. The injured victim was rescued and taken to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, has ordered a manhunt for the attackers and expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the Chwel Nyango community over what he described as a senseless loss of lives.As part of measures to forestall further violence, the police announced an immediate statewide ban on night grazing and night mining. The Commissioner also reaffirmed the existing restriction on commercial motorcycle operations within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.Additionally, commercial tricycle operations, popularly known as Keke Napep, have been suspended as part of tightened security arrangements for the Easter period.Residents were urged to comply with the directives and limit unnecessary movements, particularly at night, while security presence has been reinforced in affected areas. The Command also called on the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies.In a related development, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has conducted the burial of four victims of last Sunday’s attack on Anguwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area.The attack, which left 28 persons dead and several others injured, led to the imposition of a 48-hour curfew by the state government to contain rising tensions.The funeral prayer, led by the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, Sheikh Ghazali Ismaila Adam, was held at the Babale Burial Cemetery with selected family members in attendance to avoid further unrest.The cleric urged the affected families to remain patient and called on the public to avoid inflammatory statements, stressing the importance of peace.Meanwhile, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has appealed for calm, assuring residents that security agencies are working to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
