2027: Benue Assembly Majority Leader Dumps APC for PDP

MAKURDI — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has suffered another setback ahead of the 2027 general elections following the defection of the Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, Thomas Dugeri, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dugeri, who represents Kwande West State Constituency in the Assembly, was formally presented to the immediate past governor of Benue State and leader of the PDP in the state, Chief Samuel Ortom, by the party’s Deputy Chairman in the state, Hon. Adzua Ashongo.

The presentation took place at Ortom’s residence in Abuja during Dugeri’s first meeting with the former governor since his defection from the ruling APC.

Speaking during the meeting, Dugeri thanked Ortom and other PDP leaders and members for the warm reception extended to him and his supporters since joining the party.

He also expressed appreciation to PDP members in Kwande and across the state for accepting him, describing the reception as encouraging.

The lawmaker pledged his loyalty and commitment to the PDP, promising to work with other stakeholders to secure victory for the party at all levels in the 2027 elections.

Dugeri said his decision to join the opposition party was motivated by his desire to work with the PDP and its stakeholders towards achieving its objectives ahead of the 2027 polls.
Responding, Ortom welcomed Dugeri and his supporters into the PDP and assured them of equal opportunities within the party.

The former governor described the PDP as a broad political family where both old and new members have roles to play in strengthening the party.

Ortom urged Dugeri and other party members to work together to rebuild the PDP and strengthen its efforts to regain political control of Benue State in 2027.
