The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed a single case of COVID-19 in Cross River State, assuring Nigerians that there is no cause for concern as the situation remains under control.
In a statement issued by its Director-General, Jide Idris, the agency said the infected individual has been isolated and is receiving treatment in line with national care protocols.
“The patient is stable and responding well to treatment,” the NCDC said, noting that it is the only confirmed case recorded in the state so far.
The agency disclosed that the Cross River State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the NCDC and development partners, has activated necessary response measures to prevent any possible spread of the virus.
According to the statement, these measures include contact tracing, strengthened surveillance, and infection prevention and control protocols, with all identified contacts currently under close monitoring.
The NCDC reiterated that there is no evidence of community transmission in the state at this time, stressing that the detection of the case highlights the effectiveness of existing surveillance systems.
“There is no indication of widespread transmission. Our surveillance system remains active and responsive,” it stated.
While urging Nigerians to remain calm, the agency advised continued vigilance and adherence to public health guidelines to reduce the risk of infection.
It encouraged citizens to maintain proper hand and respiratory hygiene, stay at home when unwell, and seek medical care when necessary, while relying only on verified information from official health authorities.
The NCDC assured that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed, while also commending the media and the public for supporting the dissemination of accurate health information.
