President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the killing of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist assault on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.
In a statement, the President extended condolences to the Nigerian military and the bereaved families, urging them to remain strong in the face of the tragic loss.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Tinubu commended the fallen troops for their bravery, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the insurgents and prevent them from overrunning nearby communities.
Describing the slain soldiers as “unforgettable and irreplaceable heroes,” the President said their sacrifice would never be forgotten and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to defeating terrorism.
“Reports available to me indicate that our armed forces have sustained intense land and air offensives against insurgents, eliminating several fighters and commanders.
This latest attack is a desperate response,” he said.
He condoled with the families of the deceased personnel, including those under the command of Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
The President urged the Armed Forces not to be discouraged, but to remain resolute and draw strength from the nation’s appreciation of their sacrifices.
He also assured that the Federal Government would continue to support the military with improved welfare and necessary equipment to prosecute the war against insurgency.
Tinubu further called on Nigerians and the media to back the military in its ongoing operations, warning against any actions that could undermine the morale of troops.He also extended sympathies to the government and people of Borno State, pledging sustained collaboration to restore lasting peace and security in the region.
