The town of Zuru, Kebbi State, was enveloped in mourning on Thursday as the late Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru (Lifiddan Zuru), was laid to rest.
Thousands of sympathisers converged on the Zuru Jumu’at Mosque for the funeral prayers, paying their last respects to a leader remembered for his humility, dedication, and service to the people.
The Speaker died on Monday, April 6, 2026, in a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, following a prolonged illness.
The Janazah prayer, led by Imam Suleiman Tanko at about 6:00 p.m., drew a large crowd of dignitaries, including Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris; the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi Sami Gomo III; Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida; Senator Muhammad Adamu Alieru; Ambassador Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari; and other top government officials, lawmakers, and political leaders.
The massive turnout of mourners from within and outside the state underscored the late Speaker’s wide-reaching influence and the respect he commanded across different segments of society.
During his lifetime, Zuru was noted for his calm temperament, commitment to legislative duties, and steadfast loyalty to the development of Kebbi State.In an earlier condolence message, Governor Idris described his death as a huge loss to his family, the Zuru Emirate, Kebbi State, and the nation.
The late Speaker was later interred at a cemetery in Zuru in accordance with Islamic rites, with the Governor, the Emir, and other top officials in attendance.
As tributes continue to pour in, residents of Kebbi State remain united in grief, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the late lawmaker.
