Governor Dapo Abiodun on Thursday presented 40 new Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to traditional rulers in Ogun State, urging them to intensify efforts in maintaining security and promoting investment-friendly communities.
The vehicles were handed over during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Obas’ Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Abiodun said the gesture was in appreciation of the monarchs’ support for his administration and aimed at boosting their efficiency in grassroots governance.
He described traditional rulers as key custodians of culture and critical partners in sustaining peace and development.
According to the governor, the provision of the vehicles would enhance the mobility of the monarchs and strengthen their role in fostering stability across their domains.He, however, charged them to take proactive steps in attracting investors, warning that hostility from host communities could undermine the state’s economic growth.
The governor expressed concern over reports of uncooperative attitudes in some areas, including Yewa South, Ipokia and Ijebu North, stressing that such actions could discourage prospective investors.
“These investors are bringing capital that can transform our economy, create jobs and improve livelihoods. They must be supported,” he said, urging the monarchs to work closely with their communities to ensure a welcoming environment.
On security, Abiodun called for increased vigilance, encouraging traditional institutions and residents to promptly report suspicious activities, especially in view of rising insecurity in parts of the country.
While acknowledging efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address national security challenges, he emphasised the need for continued local collaboration to sustain peace in the state.
The governor also warned against indiscriminate land allocation and involvement in land disputes, describing land as a vital economic asset that must be managed responsibly to attract genuine investors.
He further cautioned property owners against harbouring criminal elements, noting that buildings used for unlawful activities would face demolition.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hazmat, said the meeting—its first in 2026—focused on security, development, and strengthening synergy between government and traditional institutions.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Council and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, commended the governor’s developmental efforts and pledged continued support for policies aimed at economic growth and stability in Ogun State.
