The Federal Government has introduced a strengthened social protection initiative aimed at providing financial security for civil servants and their families in cases of workplace injury, disability, or death.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, described the move as a landmark reform, emphasising its focus on workers’ welfare.
“This is not just another announcement—it is a declaration that the Nigerian civil servant matters,” she said.
The revamped Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS), she noted, represents a shift toward tangible support backed by financial commitment.
Also speaking, Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Oluwaseun Faleye, said the scheme guarantees assistance for workers affected by occupational hazards.
“A civil servant should never have to worry that an accident at work will leave their family without support. This scheme guarantees that assurance,” he said.
Faleye disclosed that a dedicated ECS desk has been established to guide workers on claims and benefits, as well as drive awareness across government institutions.
The initiative, officials said, aligns with broader efforts to improve living standards for public servants and underscores government commitment ahead of Workers’ Day.
