Former Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, has withdrawn from the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship race, throwing his full support behind Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
Shuaib announced his decision during a press conference, describing it as difficult but necessary to preserve party unity.
“I am formally withdrawing from the contest for the APC gubernatorial ticket in Nasarawa State,” he declared. “I throw my full weight, the weight of my structure, and the weight of my conviction behind the preferred candidate of the Governor, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.”
He explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state and was in line with an earlier agreement among aspirants to support a consensus candidate.
“We tried, in good faith, but we could not arrive at a single name by our own hands,” he said. “We undertook that we would rally behind whomever the governor chose.”
Shuaib admitted that the outcome was not easy for many aspirants but stressed the importance of honouring commitments.
“That word was not given for the easy day; it was given precisely so it would hold on the difficult one,” he added.
He appealed to his supporters to remain steadfast, acknowledging their sacrifices.
“To carry their hopes is a great honour. To return to them with this news is a heavy burden,” he said, urging them to focus on party unity.
Shuaib also extended a hand of partnership to Wadada, pledging continued service to the state.
“My commitment to Nasarawa State does not end on this podium. It only takes a different shape,” he stated.
