Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have rescued 14 travellers abducted by suspected sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.
The rescue operation, according to a statement issued in Uyo by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, followed sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated inter-agency efforts.
“Acting on credible intelligence, joint operatives intensified surveillance and launched targeted operations across identified flashpoints, culminating in the safe rescue of all victims without any loss of life,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the victims are currently receiving medical attention and undergoing debriefing, after which they will be reunited with their families.
She added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the synergy and professionalism exhibited by personnel involved in the operation.
The Command further assured that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
