Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has said peace, justice and fairness to all citizens are essential to restoring Kaduna to its former status as the capital of Northern Nigeria.
Sani also pledged that his administration would continue to protect the rights of all citizens regardless of their religious, social or economic status.
The governor spoke on Sunday at the national seminar and award ceremony of the Fityanul Islam First Aid Group, where he commended the organisation for its contributions to peaceful coexistence and humanitarian activities.
He said cooperation between the organisation and security agencies had helped promote peace, noting that its members had served as first responders during disasters, accidents and fire outbreaks.
Sani described the volunteers as selfless individuals who carried out their duties without financial remuneration.
“Kaduna is the capital of Northern Nigeria. All that my government has been doing is to return it to its past glory. This can only be achieved if there is peace,” he said.
The governor added, “We will ensure that every citizen is given his or her rights under the law. When we were elected, I swore with the Qur’an that I will be fair to all the people in Kaduna State.”
“Being fair to all and sundry is what brings peace. Our religion enjoins us that even an animal deserves to be treated fairly. So, every human being, no matter his or her status, deserves to be treated with fairness and justice,” he said.
Sani pledged to maintain fairness towards Muslims, Christians and adherents of different sects across Kaduna State.
He also commended the Fityanul Islam First Aid Group for supporting pilgrims during the annual Hajj, including assisting them from the pilgrims’ camp to the airport and throughout their journey.
The governor noted that members of the organisation also assist elderly and physically challenged worshippers during religious activities, particularly Friday prayers.
Sani said he returned to Kaduna from Asaba, Delta State, where he had attended an event the previous day, specifically to participate in the seminar.
“I am here just to demonstrate to you that we have been following all the good deeds that you have been doing and to show gratitude. God will reward you abundantly for all your good deeds,” he said.
He disclosed that more than 2,000 members of the group attended the seminar and assured the organisation of continued government support.
“Government is 100 per cent with you,” he declared.
As part of his support, Sani donated two buses to the national headquarters of the Fityanul Islam Aid Group, as well as another bus and two vehicles to its Kaduna State chapter.
He also donated N50 million to support transportation costs for participants at the seminar.
Earlier, Kaduna State Chairman of Fityanul Islam, Sheikh Rabiu Abdullahi Zaria, described Sani as a fair-minded leader who had consistently supported religious activities.
He said the organisation had continued to pray for the governor, recalling that Sani had supported its activities even before becoming a senator.
According to him, the national seminar was organised to strengthen the capacity of selected members of the Aid Group, whose membership he said had exceeded one million.
Although he stressed that Fityanul Islam was a religious organisation rather than a political association, Sheikh Rabiu declared that the group was “100 per cent” behind the governor.
“We have something to repay the Governor with and the time is around the corner. We are equally praying for you,” he said.
He prayed for Sani’s successful completion of his first term and his re-election for a second term.
