Air Peace has apologised to passengers following the disruption of its flight operations at airports in Lagos and Abuja as a result of industrial action by aviation sector unions.
The airline said members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, barricaded the entrances to its departure terminals at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
The affected facilities include Terminal 1, comprising the Alpha and Zulu terminals, as well as Terminal 2.
The industrial action also restricted access to Air Peace operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
According to the airline, the blockade prevented scheduled flights from departing from both cities, leaving passengers travelling across its network stranded or facing delays.
In a statement, Air Peace said: “The ongoing industrial action has resulted in the barricading of the entrances to our departure terminals at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Alpha and Zulu Terminals) and Terminal 2 in Lagos, as well as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Terminal in Abuja.”
The airline said the action had “restricted access to these terminals, preventing the departure of scheduled flights from Lagos and Abuja.”
Air Peace apologised to passengers affected by the disruption, describing the circumstances as beyond its control.
“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected and stranded passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control,” the statement said.
It added that passengers scheduled to travel later in the day were being contacted and provided with updates as the situation developed
