The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, seeking the arrest and prosecution of Ogun State chieftain, Abayomi Hunye.
The party accused Hunye of presenting himself publicly as its governorship candidate for the January 2027 election.
In a petition dated August 24, 2026, and signed by the APC Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, the party accused Hunye of using print and social media platforms to make the claim.
“The Subject has notoriously and unlawfully taken to the public domain, including print and social media, parading himself as the Governorship Candidate of our Party for the forthcoming January 2027 election,” the party stated.
The APC described Hunye’s claim as an attempt to mislead the public and undermine peace in Ogun State.
According to the petition, “this claim is false, fraudulent, and a deliberate act of impersonation designed to mislead the public and destabilize the peace of Ogun State.”
The party said Hunye had been suspended since April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.
The suspension was subsequently ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the national headquarters, the party said.
The APC alleged that the suspension followed accusations of anti-party activities, “nefarious dealings injurious to the image of the Party,” and actions allegedly capable of causing disaffection among members.
The party said Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan remained its recognised governorship candidate, with Kudirat Abiodun Balogun as running mate.
The APC asked the IGP to “cause him to be prosecuted after investigation for Impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and violation of the Electoral Act, 2026,” and to “restrain him from further parading himself as a candidate to prevent a total breakdown of law and order in Ogun State.”
The party said it attached documents supporting its position, including Hunye’s alleged suspension letter from Tube Ward, the ratification letter from the Ogun State Working Committee and correspondence relating to the screening of governorship aspirants.
The APC pledged to cooperate with the police investigation and provide further witness statements if required.
