Two Injured as Car Collides with Stationary Truck on Lagos-Badagry Expressway
LAGOS — Two men sustained severe injuries on Saturday when a Toyota car rammed into a stationary truck at Divine Bus Stop, Ijanikin, along the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway.
The crash, which occurred around 1:20 p.m., involved a Toyota car with registration number FST 450HG and a broken-down truck bearing number LSR 243YC.
Eyewitnesses said the victims, who had just bought cartons of milk, Milo, juice, and other household items, suffered deep cuts and heavy bleeding. One of them was reportedly injured from the neck down through his chest and stomach.
According to an eyewitness, identified as Mayowa, the car’s driver veered off suddenly to avoid hitting a young boy crossing the road with a bucket of water, but instead slammed into the truck.
“The truck had broken down, and the mechanic working on it had only stepped aside minutes before the crash. If he had still been under the truck, he would have been crushed,” Mayowa explained.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who arrived at the scene, initially blamed the truck driver for leaving his vehicle unattended on the busy highway. However, checks later confirmed that the truck was undergoing repairs at the time of the accident.
While some witnesses faulted the truck’s presence on the road for the crash, others accused the car driver of speeding and recklessness.
The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their conditions remain uncertain as of press time.
