Oyo Govt Disburses ₦780m in Fourth Round of Compensation for Circular Road Project
The Oyo State Government has released the fourth batch of compensation payments to property owners affected by the ongoing Circular Road project in Ibadan, amounting to ₦780 million.
The payments were made on Thursday at the office of the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Funmilayo, who described the exercise as a major step in fulfilling the government’s pledge to adequately compensate all affected persons.
According to the commissioner, a total of 298 property owners were identified in the first segment of the project corridor. Of these, 193 have been compensated, while 105 are yet to complete the mandatory verification process.
“The screening is necessary to ensure only genuine beneficiaries are paid. We are ready to release the funds once the remaining property owners present themselves for verification,” Mr. Funmilayo explained.
He revealed that while ₦780 million has already been disbursed, the government’s total compensation liability for this segment stands at about ₦980 million. He also raised concerns about potential fraudulent claims, noting that strict checks are in place to prevent abuse.
The commissioner assured that the names of the outstanding beneficiaries have been documented and that further sensitization campaigns, including public announcements, would be conducted to encourage them to come forward.
