Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday commissioned three major projects in Gwoza Local Government Area, aimed at strengthening healthcare, education, and commerce in the insurgency-hit community.
The projects include the new Gwoza College of Nursing and Midwifery, a block of 20 modern teachers’ quarters, and 200 lock-up shops at the Gwoza Main Market.
Speaking at the commissioning, Zulum said the college, equipped with modern laboratories, a library, simulation rooms, and furnished classrooms, would help address the shortage of skilled health workers in the state.
“For years, we have diagnosed a critical ailment in our healthcare system – a severe deficit of skilled hands. Today, we move from diagnosis to treatment, by building an institution dedicated to life,” the governor declared.
In addition, the teachers’ quarters will provide decent accommodation for educators to improve their welfare and enhance teaching quality, while the 200 new market shops are expected to boost local commerce and expand government revenue.
The governor also announced the recruitment of 50 nurses for the Gwoza General Hospital to strengthen healthcare delivery and provide a training base for the nursing college students.
The event was attended by the Emir of Gwoza, HRH Alh. Idris Shehu Timta, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, federal and state lawmakers, senior government officials, and community leaders.
