The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Senator Ben Ndi Obi as the new Secretary of its National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), following the defection of former Secretary, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC), acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), approved the appointment as part of efforts to ensure seamless preparations for its 2025 Elective National Convention slated for Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, who also serves as Secretary of the Publicity and Communication Sub-committee of the NCOC, the party said Senator Obi’s appointment underscores its commitment to stability, unity, and continuity ahead of the crucial convention.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), has approved the appointment of Senator Ben Ndi Obi as Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) for the conduct of the 2025 PDP Elective National Convention scheduled to hold on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,” the statement read.
The NWC commended the NCOC, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, for its dedication towards ensuring the success of the convention.
It also called on all party members, stakeholders, and leaders nationwide to remain united and focused as the PDP works towards strengthening its internal democracy and positioning itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The NWC calls on all leaders, critical stakeholders, and teeming members of the PDP to remain united, steadfast, and focused on the successful conduct of the National Convention and the overall progress of our great party,” Ologunagba added.
Governor Peter Mbah, who previously served as Secretary of the NCOC, recently resigned his position after defecting from the PDP to the APC.
