JOS — Three persons suspected of involvement in the killing of a traditional ruler in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State were reportedly lynched and burnt by an angry mob on Friday evening.
The suspects were allegedly linked to the murder of Ponzhi Kwallak, the monarch of Kwallak community, who was said to have been attacked and killed in his residence on Thursday night. The assailants reportedly made away with his motorcycle and mobile phone after the attack.
Sources in the community said the incident has plunged the area into grief and heightened tension.
Residents claimed the three suspects were apprehended while allegedly attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle. They were also said to have confessed to the crime after being caught.
It was gathered that some community members initially moved to hand the suspects over to security operatives.
However, the situation escalated when a group of hoodlums overpowered them, seized the suspects, and set them ablaze near the Langtang North Local Government Council Secretariat.
A local source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the suspects were captured by residents and allegedly confessed before the mob carried out the attack.
The source further disclosed that the monarch was shot during the invasion of his home before the attackers fled with his belongings.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from security agencies were unsuccessful.
