ABUJA — The Labour Party (LP) has extended an olive branch to aggrieved members, including the Abure camp, as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This comes as the party leadership expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Working Committee (NWC), which held its maiden meeting following the recent national convention.
Abia State Governor and party leader, Alex Otti, who attended the meeting in Abuja on Thursday, described the proceedings as smooth, with most members of the new executive in attendance.
He congratulated the National Chairman and other members of the committee, stating that they had demonstrated the capacity to lead the party over the next four years.
According to him, the new leadership is well-positioned to consolidate on previous achievements and steer the party through key activities, including primaries and the forthcoming elections.
Otti noted that ongoing reconciliation efforts are already producing results, with several party leaders, including former state chairmen, taking part in the recent convention.
On preparations for 2027, he reaffirmed the party’s readiness to participate fully in the electoral process, stressing that the LP remains open to all qualified aspirants.
“Nigeria’s political space remains competitive. Our focus is on strengthening internal structures and providing a credible platform for Nigerians,” he said.
The governor also dismissed allegations that the party is being influenced by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), maintaining that the LP remains independent in its decisions.
He further hinted that the party could field a presidential candidate to challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
