Tinubu Nominates Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power

By Clement John

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination has been formally forwarded to the upper chamber for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions, according to a statement by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

The appointment follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who left office to pursue political ambitions.

Mr. Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience spanning both public and private sectors, with a strong background in fiscal policy, economic reforms, and institutional development.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major assignments in governance reforms, public sector transformation, and policy advisory services across the continent.

He has also worked closely with government institutions and private organisations on regulatory reforms, investment frameworks, and strategic development initiatives.

Until his nomination, Tegbe was the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinated bilateral cooperation efforts aimed at advancing economic and social development under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) framework.

His experience also includes engagements in the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

The Presidency said his nomination is expected to support ongoing reforms in the electricity sector, improve grid stability, and attract long-term investment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

It added that President Tinubu expects the minister-designate, if confirmed, to deploy his expertise to drive critical reforms and improve service delivery in the power sector for Nigerians.
