The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State says no fewer than eight aspirants have expressed interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election on the party’s platform, amid growing political activities ahead of the polls.
The party also commended former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for declaring interest in the 2027 presidential race under the ADC platform.
In a statement issued by the chairman-elect of the party in Rivers State, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, the ADC described the increasing interest in its platform as evidence of its growing acceptance among politicians and professionals seeking alternative leadership.
According to Dimkpa, Amaechi’s decision to seek the presidency on the ADC platform represents a significant boost to the party’s national profile and signals growing confidence in its political direction.
He said the level of interest recorded in Rivers State has been “extraordinary,” noting that the governorship hopefuls include former public office holders, technocrats, professionals and private sector operators.
Among those said to have indicated interest are a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, former members of the House of Representatives, a former Chairman of NIMASA, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, architects and business leaders.
Dimkpa added that several other individuals have also shown interest in contesting Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats across the state on the ADC platform.
He maintained that the development reflects increasing public confidence in the party’s internal democratic process and governance agenda.
The party chairman-elect further stated that the ADC would continue to promote transparent processes, peaceful political engagement and issue-based campaigns as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
