Navy Intercepts 500 Litres of Suspected Illegal AGO, Cannabis in Lekki

The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 500 litres of products suspected to be illegally sourced Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa in Folu Community, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this on Wednesday.

He said personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lekki carried out the operation as part of efforts to combat illegal trading and storage of petroleum products and the circulation of illicit drugs within its area of responsibility.

According to him, the suspects fled the scene before they could be arrested.
However, naval personnel recovered the suspected illegally sourced petroleum products and narcotic substances and transported them to the base for further investigation and appropriate action.

Folorunsho said the operation demonstrated the Navy’s continued commitment to tackling criminal activities capable of threatening national economic interests, public safety and security in the maritime environment.

He said the Navy would intensify surveillance and enforcement operations across its areas of responsibility to deter illegal oil-related activities and other criminal enterprises.

“The interception forms part of the Nigerian Navy’s broader campaign against economic sabotage, illicit trafficking and other threats to Nigeria’s maritime security,” he said.
