The Federal Government, in partnership with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has commenced construction of a N25 billion ecumenical chapel and pilgrimage centre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The project, part of CAN’s 50th anniversary, aims to provide a space for prayer and reflection for travellers and airport workers.
At the groundbreaking, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh said: “A lot of people have challenges when they travel; people need a place where they can come and regain their calm before they enter the aeroplane.”
SGF George Akume described the initiative as “the confluence of faith and progress,” adding that it reflects the government’s commitment to passenger welfare.
“The estimated investment of Twenty-Five Billion Naira speaks volumes about the scale of ambition,” he said.
Minister Festus Keyamo noted: “It is a symbol of the unity of the country… and of the secular nature of the country.”
