NDLEA Seizes N5.8bn Cannabis Haul in Lekki Mansion, Arrests Suspects Across States

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have uncovered a massive cache of illicit drugs worth over N5.8 billion in a mansion located in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, as part of ongoing nationwide operations against drug trafficking and abuse.

The agency said operatives of its Special Operations Unit raided the property on May 8 and recovered 4,000 parcels of “Loud,” a potent strain of imported cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilograms.
According to the NDLEA, the drugs had an estimated street value of N5.815 billion.

Officials also recovered two Mercedes-Benz buses and several designer packaging sachets allegedly used for retail distribution of the illicit substance from the house located on African Lane, Lekki.

In another operation in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos, NDLEA officers dismantled a makeshift “skuchies” production factory and arrested two suspects identified as Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege.

The suspects were allegedly caught preparing cannabis mixtures combined with other illicit substances.
The agency said operatives recovered 270 litres of already processed skuchies as well as 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg from the facility.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that three persons living with disabilities were also arrested in separate drug trafficking operations in Anambra and Kwara states.
One of the suspects, identified as 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara, was allegedly arrested in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, with 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets following intelligence-led operations.

In another raid in Ogbunike, Anambra State, operatives arrested 25-year-old Amos Kenneth with quantities of Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol-5 and skunk.

Similarly, along the Bode Saadu route in Kwara State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle and allegedly recovered 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a school bag belonging to a suspect identified as Usman Salisu.

The anti-narcotics agency also announced the arrest of Emmanuel Osita Okeke in Nyanya-Karu, Nasarawa State, where 129 kilograms of skunk were reportedly recovered.

In Kogi State, operatives on patrol along the Okene-Lokoja highway intercepted a commuter bus travelling to Abuja and recovered 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms.

Three suspects Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond and Babangida Musa — were arrested in connection with the seizure.

The agency said its commands across the country also sustained anti-drug awareness campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative in schools, communities and religious centres in states including Nasarawa, Ekiti, Enugu, Abia, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kano and Oyo.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse nationwide.
