ABUJA — The Presidency on Wednesday clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, were not removed from office but resigned voluntarily.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was explained that Edun stepped down on health grounds before Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced his replacement.

According to the Presidency, Dangiwa also tendered his resignation, expressing gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.

Onanuga noted that Edun, who recently turned 70 and has faced health challenges, submitted his resignation letter on his birthday, appreciating the President for the privilege to serve.

“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun wrote, adding that Nigeria had grown stronger and more resilient under Tinubu’s leadership.

Before his exit was formally announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where he held a closed-door meeting before departing to focus on private engagements.

Dangiwa, an architect, previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank and Secretary to the Katsina State Government before his appointment as minister in August 2023.

Edun, an economist and investment banker, also served as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance between 1999 and 2004 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor. He had earlier worked with Chase Merchant Bank and the World Bank, and later co-founded Stanbic IBTC, as well as Chapelhill Denham Group.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to both former ministers for their service and contributions to his administration’s economic reform agenda, wishing them success in their future endeavours.

He also charged the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to build on ongoing reforms and drive the government’s fiscal and economic policies with renewed focus.

The President further disclosed that a ministerial nominee for housing, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
