A fresh controversy has broken out between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) authorities over the use of Eagle Square for the party’s national convention.
While the ADC maintains that it duly applied for the venue and received acknowledgment, FCT officials insist no valid request was submitted through the appropriate channel.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC formally wrote to request the use of Eagle Square and that the correspondence was received.
“We actually wrote to request the use of Eagle Square.
The letter is there, and it was received and acknowledged.
So for them to now say we never applied is simply not true,” he said.
However, FCT authorities countered that no proper application was made in line with established procedures, noting that all bookings for the facility must be processed through the Abuja Investments Company Limited, which manages the venue.
Responding to this position, Abdullahi said he could not immediately confirm the exact office the letter was addressed to but maintained that the party followed due process.
“I can’t say exactly who it was addressed to, but the fact is we wrote, it was acknowledged, and we got no response,” he added.
Despite the disagreement, the ADC has said its convention will proceed as scheduled, with accreditation set to begin at 8:00 a.m.
The dispute comes amid earlier remarks by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who dismissed the party’s claims and reiterated that Eagle Square remains accessible to organisations that comply with laid-down procedures.
As of the time of filing this report, the ADC had secured an alternative venue in Abuja to host the convention.
