The Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) has condemned recent attacks on communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, saying 28 people were killed in separate attacks on Bin Mper and Murish communities.
The association also called on the Federal, Plateau State and local governments to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, stressing the need for sustained military operations against armed attackers.
The MDA made the demand in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Friday Derwam, after an extraordinary meeting of its Central Working Committee.
The meeting reviewed reports on the security situation in Mwaghavul communities, internal constitutional matters and the impact of government policies on the people.
The association described the attacks as “unprovoked acts of aggression” by armed bandits, saying 28 people were killed while homes, farmlands and property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
“MDA mourns this devastating loss and stands in complete solidarity with the affected families,” the statement said.
The association, however, commended security agencies for what it described as rapid interventions that helped prevent further escalation.
It particularly praised the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace for the military response and improved inter-agency collaboration in the affected communities.
The MDA also commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for visiting Bin Mper and responding to the attacks.
According to the association, the deployment of security personnel, pledge of relief assistance and commitment to constructing access roads to improve security response had provided some reassurance to residents.
The group praised Mwaghavul youths for their resilience and vigilance, urging them to continue protecting their communities within the limits of the law.
“The CWC assures our brave youth of the Association’s unwavering support, ongoing prayers and continuous backing as they stand firm in safeguarding our communities,” it said.
The association stressed that protecting lives and property remained a fundamental responsibility of government at all levels.
It therefore called for sustained military operations to secure vulnerable communities, dismantle bandit hideouts and end the cycle of violence across Plateau State and Nigeria.
The MDA urged the federal, state and local governments to place national security above political and economic considerations.
It said sustained security would enable displaced residents to return to their farms, rebuild their homes and restore livelihoods destroyed by the attacks.
