The United Nations Peace Ambassadors Foundation (UN-PAF), through its Office of the Africa High Commissioner, has appointed the Registrar of the University of Maiduguri, Ahmad Alhaji Lawan, as its Director for Borno State.
The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Africa High Commissioner of UN-PAF in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
The foundation said the appointment was in recognition of Lawan’s academic, professional and administrative experience and would place him at the centre of its activities aimed at promoting peace, development and community empowerment in Borno.
Lawan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education, a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Science in International Relations.
He is also a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management, Fellow of the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administrators, member of the Association of Nigeria Universities Professional Administrators and member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.
As the new Borno State Director, Lawan is expected to provide strategic leadership, administrative coordination, institutional representation and programme development for UN-PAF activities in the state.
His responsibilities will include supporting peacebuilding and conflict-prevention initiatives, dialogue and reconciliation programmes, humanitarian and community development projects, youth and women empowerment, human rights, education and professional development.
He will also be involved in programmes focusing on sustainable development, community resilience, stakeholder engagement and initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The foundation said Lawan would work with UN-PAF leadership, Peace Ambassadors, government agencies, traditional and religious leaders, educational institutions, civil society organisations, development partners, youth and women’s groups and local communities.
The Office of the Africa High Commissioner expressed confidence that his academic background, administrative experience and commitment to public service would contribute to advancing peacebuilding, humanitarian action, community empowerment and sustainable development in Borno State and beyond.
UN-PAF subsequently called on its officials, Peace Ambassadors, representatives, strategic partners and members to give the new Borno director the necessary cooperation and support.
The University of Maiduguri community also congratulated Lawan on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.
