The All Progressives Congress, APC, and media entrepreneur and African Democratic Congress, ADC, chieftain, Dele Momodu, have expressed opposing views over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chances of securing a second term in the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
While the APC said its candidate, Biodun Oyebamiji, would defeat Adeleke, Momodu expressed confidence that the incumbent governor would be re-elected based on his performance in office.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Momodu said Adeleke had transformed several parts of the state through infrastructure development as well as improvements in education and healthcare.
He said, “Go to Ila Orangun, you will not recognise the place. Now, go to Osogbo and you will ask yourself what the people before him were doing. Go to Ile-Ife, it used to be called a village. Now, it has become a mega city. Go to Ede, go to Iwo and Ilesha. What more do you want from a man?”
Momodu also cited the refurbishment of schools and healthcare facilities as evidence of the governor’s performance.
He added that the governor had completed the Ife road despite his earlier doubts that the project could be completed within four years.
Momodu also referred to the support Adeleke had received from youths and entertainment personalities, including Davido.
However, speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described Adeleke’s performance as poor.
Morka said, “Governor Ademola Adeleke has been very dismal in his performance as governor. Is it the health sector that is in shambles? Is it the education sector?”
He argued that Adeleke was “utterly defeatable” and said several institutions and stakeholders had endorsed the APC candidate.
“The jury is out and they will come in on Saturday to give their verdict,” Morka said.
