The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Anambra State chapter, has inaugurated its Ayamelum Local Government Area secretariat in Omor as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said establishing functional and identifiable council secretariats was part of its commitment to ensuring that grassroots communities were adequately represented in its political activities.
Speaking at the inauguration, the factional NDC State Chairman, David Patrick Chukwudifu, said political power ultimately belonged to the people.
He commended the turnout of party members and urged prospective candidates in Ayamelum to work closely with the local government executive and the 11 ward chairmen.
Chukwudifu said the existing leadership structures were recognised by the party hierarchy and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), warning that bypassing them could undermine the party’s electoral prospects.
The event brought together state and local party leaders, youth representatives and community stakeholders.
Earlier, the NDC chairman for Ayamelum LGA, Nwakobi Felix Emenike, praised the state executive for what he described as its commitment and unity.
He said the presence of the state leadership demonstrated the party’s determination to establish a strong grassroots presence.
According to Emenike, “the presence of our Capacity State Chairman David Patrick Chukuwudifu and members of the state executive committee underscores our shared commitment to ensuring that no grassroots community is left behind.”
He added, “With this kind dynamic state leadership being displayed by Chukwudifu, the party remains in safe hands and is strategically positioned to secure victories across all 11 wards in Anyamelum L.G.A.”
The NDC secretary in Ayamelum, Obiora Patricia, praised the youth-oriented approach of the Chukwudifu-led state executive.
She said political engagement had moved beyond rhetoric to strategic organisation and expressed confidence in the party’s direction.
The local government women leader, Egodi Emeka, passed a vote of confidence in the state executive, citing its inclusion of women in strategic party positions.
The youth leader, Okafor Ifesinachi, urged the state leadership to sustain efforts to build a stronger party structure across the state.
The state NDC Youth Wing Coordinator, Chukwuma Ezenwanko, called for unity among party members as preparations for future elections intensify.
The inauguration was attended by the state publicity secretary, Chief Onyiuke, members of the State Working Committee and regional party delegates.
