ABUJA- The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has confirmed a cybersecurity breach involving unauthorised access to parts of its information systems, heightening concerns over the safety of government digital infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the commission disclosed that the incident affected only limited aspects of its systems and is currently under investigation. It, however, assured that the breach was swiftly contained.
According to the CAC, its response protocols were immediately activated upon detection of the intrusion, with measures put in place to limit exposure and prevent further compromise.
The agency added that it is working closely with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), other relevant government bodies, and partners to determine the scope and impact of the breach.
The commission further revealed that additional security layers have been introduced to reinforce its systems while investigations continue, reassuring stakeholders of its commitment to safeguarding its database.
“The Corporate Affairs Commission is currently reviewing a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to limited aspects of its information systems. CAC promptly activated its response protocols and is collaborating with NITDA, relevant government agencies and partners to assess the scope and impact,” the statement said.
CAC advised users of its online portal to adopt precautionary measures, including updating their login credentials, monitoring account activities, and remaining alert to suspicious or unsolicited communications.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of data protection in Nigeria, following a recent probe by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission into an alleged breach involving Remita Payment Services Ltd., Sterling Bank, and other organisations.
