NSCDC, Security Agencies Repel Bandit Attacks, Restore Peace in Plateau Communities
ABUJA — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has successfully foiled repeated bandit attacks on farming communities in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, restoring relative peace and enabling displaced residents to begin returning home.
The Corps, in a statement issued Friday by its National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, said the operation was executed by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and Police.
Commander of the squad, Commandant A .S. Dandaura, said the attackers had exploited the difficult terrain of Nteng village in Deomak District, where several assaults led to the destruction of farmlands, the burning of a Primary Health Care Centre, and the displacement of over 4,000 farmers.
“In line with the directive of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, we set up an intelligence-driven operation to stop the incessant attacks on Nteng village,” Dandaura said.
He commended the synergy among security agencies, noting that the Nigerian Army has since mounted a joint guard operation in the community to rebuild residents’ confidence.
On behalf of the Corps, Dandaura assured residents of their safety, particularly in Doop, Keolakan, Jepmorop and Gorom villages, where valuables were destroyed or looted during the attacks.
The NSCDC has also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas ahead of deploying its Agro Rangers, whose mandate includes protecting farmlands, preventing farmer-herder clashes and averting further reprisals.
The Corps urged locals to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to consolidate peace in the region.
