The Lagos State Police Command on Monday dismissed as false a viral message alleging an imminent cult clash in parts of the state, assuring residents there is no threat to public safety.
Despite debunking the claim, the Command said it has heightened security presence in the affected areas, including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and the Ishaga axis, as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said it responded swiftly to the initial reports by deploying personnel and operational assets to the identified locations and surrounding communities.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, was quoted as directing sustained patrols, strategic deployment of officers and increased visibility policing across the flashpoints.
“The areas are well secured, and adequate security coverage has been emplaced to deter any unlawful gatherings or activities,” the statement said.
The Command reassured residents of their safety, urging them to go about their normal activities without fear, while noting that police operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies, remain fully mobilised to sustain peace.
It also warned against the spread of unverified information capable of inciting panic, advising the public to rely only on credible and official sources.
Residents were further encouraged to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency channels.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, pledging continued efforts to ensure security and stability across the state.
