ABUJA — The Federal Government has inaugurated a new Governing Board for the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), signalling renewed efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s business environment and attract greater investment inflows.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Jumoke Oduwole, described the CAC as a critical institution within Nigeria’s economic architecture, highlighting its role in business registration, regulation, and corporate transparency.
According to a statement from the ministry, Oduwole said the composition of the new Board reflects a strategic move to reposition the Commission for improved efficiency and global competitiveness.
She charged members to drive reforms, enhance service delivery, and fast-track digital transformation, particularly in support of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
She noted that the development aligns with broader government efforts to modernise the business landscape and strengthen institutional capacity to attract both domestic and foreign investors.
“The CAC remains central to Nigeria’s economic growth. With the new Board, we expect a more efficient, transparent, and accessible system for businesses,” she said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, stressed the importance of synergy between the Board and the Commission’s management. He called for the adoption of modern processes and strict adherence to corporate governance standards to support Nigeria’s industrial and trade agenda.
Isokpunwu added that improved coordination and stronger governance frameworks are essential to sustaining ongoing reforms and enhancing service delivery.
“We are committed to making it faster, more affordable, and easier to do business in Nigeria,” he said.
In his acceptance remarks, the Chairman of the Board, Senator Ibrahim M. Ida, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment, pledging a performance-driven leadership focused on efficiency and institutional credibility.
He assured that the Board would prioritise reforms aimed at restoring confidence in the Commission and ensuring a more seamless and transparent business registration process.
Ida added that the new leadership is committed to delivering tangible improvements in the Commission’s operations and overall stakeholder experience.
